KARMA: YOU DO YOU

“What Goes Around Comes Around” this is a phrase which all of us have heard quite regularly in our lives and have at some point or the other also had faith in it. Personally, I have immense faith in this theory as I might say. Although, there are times when one might feel that all bad things are happening to them and they are not getting the rewards for the good things they have done in their lives. However, the truth is that when karma does its work and magic we get exactly what we deserve how so ever good or bad that might be. YOU GET WHAT YOU DO.

Karma does not mean that just because you have done a good thing for someone your life will be perfect and nothing bad will ever happen to you. Rather, it means that you will always get the fruit of your work and even if bad things do happen you will always find a way to deal with them. It is very normal for us to say things like I have done so much for my friend or relative but he/she has never done the same and we feel that we just wasted our time and effort on someone who was not even worth it. However, karma has its own beautiful way of working and you wouldn’t even realize when it does its magic. We should never change our personality, nature or way of thinking just because someone else is not reciprocating our goodness with goodness. Our personality is who we are and there should be nothing more significant than that. In any case, our act of doing something good for someone should not be motivated by our desire to get something in return . It should just be an act of goodness and morality. If your acts are motivated by your own selfish desires then it would not be long before karma hits you. Karma does not promote some idealistic way of life in which you do not want anything for yourself and just want to work for the goodness of others. It does not ask one for renunciation of the world and to the life of an ascetic rather it promotes a way of life which is motivated by the acts of humanity and oneness.

Jeremy Bentham had given the idea of “pain and pleasure”. His ideology basically says that human beings are pleasure seeking organisms they function so as to maximise or seek pleasure and avoid pain.

If I may take the liberty of a writer’s imagination , I would say that Karma and Jeremy Bentham’s ideology can be considered to be read together in some way. Bentham said that human beings are guided by mainly two motives : that is to avoid pain and to seek pleasure. Similarly, karma also operates in that manner only , it gives pleasure to us when we do good deeds and pain when we let our satanic side get to us. Of course, it is extremely difficult to be an angel perennially but it is not that difficult to keep our satanic side hidden. We only let the devil dictate us when we want to. Looking at this from a realistic point of view, everything really comes down to our own actions. We get rewarded or punished accordingly. So, when life gets a little rough and you have no hopes left , there will always be karma looking over you like your guardian angel. While you may feel things are not working out and everything is going downhill for you, when karma does its job everything suddenly starts to make sense. You may not be rewarded immediately but you surely will same for punishment.

All our lies , we have heard that our actions are a clear reflection of our personality and when you sit and think about it this is extremely true. We often judge others by a single act they do – for instance, if you go to a shop and their is a crowd but still the shopkeeper assists you first, you like it and vow to only buy things from his shop. However, if we look at this incident from the perspective of some other shopper there who probably had been standing in the queue for long , he would be aggravated by this situation and will probably never return to that shop again.

Our actions often have more consequences than we can think of and they can be both positive or negative. It is always wise to think before we act and try to make a positive impact on our lives as well as others. We should let karma be our guiding force and we will always be on the right path, not deviating even for a second. Just because someone did bad to us does not in any way gives us the license to do bad to that person , our karma will protect us and his karma will punish him.

Give the reins of your life in the hands of Karma and see how you evolve. I believe in Karma and hope after reading this you do too. Let your Karma do its magic . You reap what you sow. Just like your actions define you, they also determine your life and you can be the judge of what you want.
