It is more than often in life when we realize that the darkest of nights lead us to the brightest of the days. Metaphorically speaking, this is not because that day brings us new joys but simply those nights that make us realize the simple pleasures of everyday life that we probably didn’t savor as much. During those dark nights, what might have seemed to us as an everyday occurrence in our life, start appearing to us as chocolate chips in the cookie of life.
Seemingly, ordinary things of life become the greatest treasures in times when we do not have them or feel like we might lose them. This is a very common aspect of the human mind, we only realize the value of things when we feel we are about to lose them and it is then that we start to imagine how life would be if we would not have those things.
When we come to think about those things or people – they can range from our family, friends, neighbors to the food we have in our kitchen or the books we have in our bag. While our family and friends obviously have a great impact on our lives and more often than not we do notice the impact that they have made. There are also some positive lessons from our neighbors or our house help that may get ignored during the course of regular life. Having food in our kitchen or books in our bag seems like a very organic thing but it is not as organic as we might perceive it to be. There are a barrage of people involved in the production of a single book. We might not recognize the importance of these things while we have them but even the things that may seem to have the most minimal impact on our lives can be in reality of extreme significance. Thus, it is extremely important to be grateful. Just like the many good habits that we try to follow in our lives, being grateful should also be one of them. When we show our gratitude towards something it not only makes us realize the worth of that thing but it also makes us a more happy person as we realize how blessed we are. Being grateful is an extremely positive mental health activity as even in your darkest days you know there will always be a few stars lifelong with you. Instead of focusing on the negatives of your life, it will magnify all your blessings and eventually lead to your holistic development. When one comes to think of it being grateful really is not really a tedious task on the contrary it is rather easy. You can make a list of the things you are grateful for and write them in a diary ; or you can simply make this a way of your thinking. In the end it all depends on your way of looking at things where sometimes even the most trivial things can be a source of utmost happiness or if you have an ungrateful mindset then even the biggest treasures will not give you much happiness.
So, the next time when your friend calls you up for the tenth time in a day just to ask you what you have been doing be grateful that you have someone who cares about you. The next time your mom insists that you should have a nutritious meal be grateful to her because if not for her who knew how undernourished you might have been and simultaneously be grateful for her because you have someone who cares for you more than you do for yourself. The next time your dad talks about your career be grateful to have someone who wants to see you be successful because if it was not for him who knew where you might have landed up.
Life is not just about great things it is about the million little things that make it as great as it is ,as a great person once said “if you stop and look around life is a beautiful thing and there is a lot to be grateful for. ” In the end, life is just like a bag of goodies the more good things you keep adding to it. the more beautiful it becomes.
